Waddle Junction
Greg Waddle, the founding member of the Evandale Light Railway and Steam
Society, Tas., recently turned the first sod of a new station complex for the
club. This particular project has long been envisioned by Greg as a development
of great importance. The Island platform will serve as a link between the
71/4" and 5" gauge systems and will be a focal point for the crews of
both gauges.
In view of the forthcoming AALS Convention, which we are
due to host during Easter 2002, this work will enhance our ever-expanding
network.
The
Club Committee named the new station Waddle Junction as a surprise tribute to
Greg. The station name and dedication board were unveiled by two past
presidents, Peter Lawson and Peter Crowder.
A
large gathering of members, both past and present, watched the ceremony after
being transferred from the main station to the new site aboard several
7114" gauge trains.
Channel
9 WIN television filmed the event and Greg was subsequently interviewed by
Kerry Finch, ex ABC, and current Channel 9 interviewer.
